Rejoice in the Lord Always
Colored Pencil on Paper
The true inspiration for this piece is the "rejoice in the LORD always" sign. The sign is a hand made piece that ancors the composition. While visiting a family friend, this sign captivated my attention. It was not the centerpiece of the outdoor home decor, but it held it's own special beauty.
This beautiful collection of flowers offsets the homemade sign. Appreciating the quaint moment, I snapped a picture and went on with my day. Several months went by before I was scrolling in my camera roll, and pleasantly remembered the mild summer day that the photo was captured.
I then got to relive the peaceful moment throughout creating this piece. Allowing each color to shine through, the colors intentionally do not perfectly blend together. My art style captures how this moment was delightful. Even the composition itself, with the sign going right to the edge shows the unexpectedness of the moment , yet its importance was worth noting in my sketchbook.
I love gathering inspiration from my life. The pieces that I make continue to draw inspiration from the places that I have been. These pieces are the most significant to me. I believe that art is special because it collects our experiences and values together on one piece of paper. It displays them for all to see, making art truly vulnerable and all the more beautiful.
